We recommend that parents and caregivers with children under age six do the following:
- Do not use any cough and cold medicines in children under age two.
- Do not use these medicines in children age two to under six because the dosage cups do not have a half-teaspoon mark, which is the dose on the label of these products for this age group.
- Consult their healthcare professional concerning the most appropriate way to treat cough and cold symptoms for children age two to under six.
- Discard these Robitussin® medicines appropriately.
- Call 1-800-762-4675 to receive a coupon for other Wyeth Consumer Healthcare products.
This action is specific to the dosage cup and not related to the safety of the medication itself.
Wyeth Consumer Healthcare is producing a new dosage cup with a half-teaspoon mark. These Robitussin® products with the new dosage cup are expected to be on store shelves by November 2007.
This recall of Robitussin® products without the half-teaspoon mark on the dosage cup does not impact other Robitussin® cough and cold products. When used according to label directions, over the counter cough and cold products can be used safely in children age 2 and older and adults. It is important to remember that Wyeth Consumer Healthcare no longer recommends using cough and cold medicines in children under two years of age.
If you have any questions about any of these products, please call 1-800-762-4675.
